My wife's folks have a place on the lake out past Sugar Loaf. They live about two hours away and only get up here a few weekends a year. Last winter they just shut the water off at the street and hoped for the best, and we got lucky. This year they want it done right before the first hard freeze. Lows are already creeping into the 30s.
I'm the closest family, but modern gun season is coming and I'm going to be in the woods most of November, so I can't be the guy checking on it every week.
So who do you use? Mostly looking for someone to drain the lines, deal with the water heater, pull or shut off the dock lights, and then look in on the place now and then. Also curious what you'd ask a handyman before handing over a key. Is a key under the mat or a lockbox ever okay, or is that asking for it?
And if you've had a burst pipe, what did you miss? I'd rather hear it from you than learn it the hard way.
