Heads up for hikers around the WMA this week + next weekend

Not a hunter myself (yet, my cousin keeps trying to drag me) but I walk my rescue pup on the trails around the Greers Ferry Lake WMA a lot, so I looked up the season dates so I don't get surprised.

What I found: youth modern gun deer hunts are Nov 7-8 and again Jan 2-3, and they need a permit. Quail season opened Nov 1 with a limit of 6 a day and runs to Feb 7. Bear archery is still going until Nov 30, but it can close early if the Bear Zone 1 quota fills. Hunting is only allowed outside the public use areas, so the campgrounds and day use spots should be fine. AGFC's page is here if you want it all: AGFC: Greers Ferry Lake WMA. Their phone number is 833-356-0879 if you've got questions.

I'm planning to either skip the WMA trails that Saturday and Sunday or stick to the public use areas, because I'd rather kids get their hunt without a dog and a guy in a gray hoodie wandering through. 😅 Other than that I'm going to be wearing as much blaze orange as I can find, and my dog is getting a bright vest. She hates it but she'll live.

Anybody else out there on the trails this time of year? Where do you go on youth weekend? And if any of you hunt this area, any tips on what you'd want hikers to do so we're not in your way? Happy to learn. 🦌
